Position Summary

Our client, a well-established financial institution, is seeking an experienced Credit Analyst III to join its commercial lending team. This role is responsible for providing timely, accurate financial analysis and credit support to facilitate sound lending decisions while helping manage portfolio risk.

The Credit Analyst III will analyze business and personal financial statements, evaluate borrower performance, monitor loan covenant compliance, and support commercial underwriting through the preparation of loan approval packages and annual reviews. This position requires a strong understanding of commercial credit, loan structure, collateral, and banking regulations, along with exceptional analytical and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and spread business and personal financial statements.
  • Prepare financial analyses and cash flow models to evaluate borrowers' ability to service debt.
  • Support commercial underwriting by entering customer and loan information into the bank's loan origination system (e.g., Abrigo or similar platforms).
  • Calculate and monitor borrower financial covenant compliance in accordance with loan agreements.
  • Prepare loan approval packages, annual credit reviews, and supporting documentation.
  • Research and analyze company, industry, and economic trends to support credit decisions.
  • Review transactions for compliance with internal loan policies and underwriting guidelines, identifying exceptions when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Portfolio Managers and lending teams to evaluate client requests and financial performance.
  • Maintain accurate credit files and documentation to support regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
  • Prepare management reports and portfolio tracking information as requested.
  • Participate in loan committee meetings and other departmental meetings as needed.
  • Complete ongoing credit and professional development training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the organization's lending and risk management objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
  • 5–7 years of commercial credit analysis experience required.
  • Previous commercial underwriting experience within banking or a related financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Commercial and commercial real estate lending
    • Financial statement analysis
    • Cash flow analysis
    • Loan structuring
    • Time Value of Money (TVM)
    • Commercial appraisals and collateral valuation
    • Credit risk assessment and underwriting principles
  • Working knowledge of banking regulations and commercial lending practices.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and communicate findings effectively to lending partners and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and build productive working relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial analysis tools; experience with Abrigo or similar loan management software is preferred.
